Transformational Entrepreneurship
Our Christian faith implores us to "work with our hands" (Thessalonians 4:11) for "I am with you, declares the Lord of hosts" (Haggai 2: 4). Yet, for too long, our congregations’ economic activity has been subdued by subjective interpretations of 1 Timothy 6:10 ("the love of money is the root of all evil") and Matthew 19: 24 ("it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God"). What has ensued is a perception of entrepreneurship through a godless lens of wealth accumulation rather than purpose-driven value creation.
To address the dilemma, Transformational Entrepreneurship is a certification programme designed to stimulate intention for building enterprises that uplift individuals and generate opportunities that serve the common good of communities. It combines practical instruction and viable methods hinged on values and ethos that correspond with Christian beliefs and teaching. Transformational entrepreneurship means "the creation of an innovative virtue-based organisation for the purpose of shifting resources out of an area of lower purpose into an area of higher purpose and value under conditions requiring a holistic perspective"(Miller and Collier 2010: 85).[1]
This programme will be facilitated by Dr Adah-Kole Emmanuel Onjewu, CHRISTE's Research Fellow in Business & Management and Senior Lecturer in International Business at the University of Wolverhampton (UK).
